Preventive Care
Routine physical exams are essential to maintain your pet’s health.
Wellness exams allow our doctors to assess overall health and detect potential problems early. At these visits you can expect that a comprehensive physical will be performed and any needed vaccines to protect your pet from common and potentially serious diseases will be administered. At these appointments we will also address parasite control to prevent infestations from fleas, ticks, heartworms, and other parasites. We will note and discuss any possible concerns, including weight issues, dental disease, concerning lumps and other possible issues and formulate a plan if needed.
Dental Care
Pets need periodic dental care to keep their teeth and gums healthy just like people do. When we find tartar or dental disease, we then need to address that with a dental cleaning and assessment. Dental cleanings are an anesthetic procedure. While your pet is anesthetized, we evaluate the visible part of the teeth and will take radiographs (x-rays) to evaluate the roots and bone surrounding the teeth to ensure any broken or diseased teeth can be addressed. This may involve surgical extractions. After the procedure we can help owners formulate a plan to care for the pet’s teeth at home and educate on how to know when another dental cleaning may be needed.
Surgery
We perform both routine and more advanced procedures at Highlands Animal Health. We understand that the idea of surgery and anesthesia for your beloved pet often may feel scary. At HAH we know the importance of maintaining a clean and sterile environment and we diligently monitor your pet throughout the procedure and during recovery. Home care after the procedure is also vitally important. When your pet goes home after the procedure, you may need to restrict their activity, adjust their food, and have them wear an Elizabethan collar or surgical recovery suit.
